ROP Budget
Strategic Objectives The strategic objective of the programme is three-fold: a) capitalising on the key position of b) strengthening existing infrastructures and creating social conditions likely to favour balanced development in a framework of equal opportunities and an upgraded environment, with long-term prospects for improvement and development, and c) environmental rectification. This strategic objective is implemented through six priority axes: n Highlighting the metropolitan role of n Protection and promotion of the environment n Reduction of intra-regional inequalities n Rural development n Reduction of unemployment and provision of equal opportunities in knowledge and skills n Development of mountain regions, internal zones and disadvantaged/problematic areas
The 7 priority axes make up for 42 individual measures. The basic results expected from the completion of the programme are as follows: n 10 hectares of infrastructure for the establishment of business/research activities n Support for 610 innovation-focused investment plans n Restoration of 95 semi-supervised and non-supervised waste disposal sites n Completion of at least 6 water supply and treatment infrastructure systems n Completion of at least 7 sewerage networks and 10 waste water treatment plants n Restoration/conservation of 37,000 m2 of buildings at monasteries on n Upgrading/construction of 50km of national road n Construction or improvement of 360km of provincial road network n Upgrading of 11 General Hospitals n 4,761 modernized hospital beds n Development of 115 school libraries and laboratories for all levels of education n Development of 360 hectares of organized industrial sites n 95 investment schemes to modernize tourist businesses n Restructuring of 1,990 agricultural holdings of plant crops n Land reclamation projects covering 32,000 hectares n Relocation of 140 nuisance generating livestock-farming units n Interventions for the protection and sustainable management of forests, covering 200,000 hectares n Implementation of 323 training programmes for employed and unemployed persons n 21 integrated programmes within Local Employment Initiatives
663 projects have been approved up to date, their total public cost amounting to 73.8% of the overall public cost of the programme. Total budget contracted (legal commitments) corresponds to 43.2% of the overall public cost of the programme, while expenditure to date on the whole programme amounts to 25.5% of the overall public cost of the ROP. Important projects have already been completed or are now approaching completion, including: n "Restoration of the historic site and the Assumption of the
n "Improvement of the technical characteristics of the Kilkis-Efkarpia road axis", with a budget of €2.8 million n "Improvement of the N. Petras – Draviskou road axis and construction of bridge over River Angitis", with a budget of €2.3 million n "Improvement of the Yiannitsa-Aravissos-Mandalo-P.Eleias-Mavrovouni road", with a budget of €1.3 million n "
